Ranchi, Jun 24 (PTI) The Jharkhand government has instructed officials to swiftly evaluate the impact of recent heavy rains in Ranchi district and provide a report without delay, a government representative revealed on Tuesday. Since June 19, Ranchi has been hit with relentless rain, causing significant waterlogging, crop destruction, and damage to residences and infrastructure. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri has tasked all circle officers with visiting the affected areas, documenting the required compensation, and submitting their findings promptly, according to an official statement. He further instructed the officials to establish a social media group to facilitate rapid communication and coordination. He emphasized the need to update the disaster management plan to better handle such events in the future. On Monday, tragedy struck when a 40-year-old man was killed after a wall collapsed on him during the downpour as he was returning home with his two children from school in Ranchi city. Meanwhile, two women lost their lives after being struck by lightning in Ranchi's Sonahatu. The district has recorded 459 mm of rainfall, significantly exceeding the usual 125.7 mm, from June 1 to June 23. On Monday alone, Ranchi received 44 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. Abhishek Anand, deputy director of the Ranchi IMD Centre, noted that light to moderate rain is forecasted across the state, including Ranchi, over the next four to five days. "The conditions in Jharkhand favor rainfall, with moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal also contributing," he added. Over the period from June 1 to June 23, Jharkhand has witnessed a 102 percent increase in rainfall, recording 247.4 mm against the normal 122.6 mm for the timeframe.
