Hyderabad, Aug 18 (PTI): In a tragic incident during the early hours of Monday, five individuals lost their lives by electrocution, while four others sustained injuries. The mishap occurred when a chariot came into contact with overhead electrical wires during a procession celebrating Sri Krishna Janmashtami, according to police reports.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 AM in Ramanthapur, where a chariot carrying Lord Krishna’s idol was being paraded through the streets. The procession took a grim turn when the vehicle, styled as a chariot, ran out of fuel, prompting nine people to push it forward.

It was during this time that a severed cable wire made contact with the overhead electric lines. This accidental contact transmitted an electric current to the brass frame surrounding the deity on the chariot, leading to the fatal electrocution of five individuals, according to a senior police official’s preliminary investigation.

Four other individuals have been hospitalized, receiving medical care following the incident. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to this unfortunate accident.
