Jammu, Jul 1 (PTI) – In an impressive drive against ticketless travel and other violations, the Jammu Division of the Northern Railway collected a substantial Rs. 3.4 crore from fines in June. This initiative targeted unauthorized travel, illegal vending, and unsanctioned activities like littering and smoking on trains.

The Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Jammu Railway Division, Uchit Singhal, spearheaded this campaign, which uncovered over 5,462 cases of irregular passenger travel. These rigorous checks, managed by the division's checking staff and Chief Ticket Inspectors, have reinforced the importance of holding valid tickets while traveling.

Regular surprise inspections by railway officials aim to maintain order and cleanliness at stations, discouraging unauthorized passenger entry. “Passengers must always travel with valid tickets. We conduct routine checks to ensure railway stations remain clean and to prevent littering by the public,” Singhal emphasized.

In addition to ticket violations, the division also focused on the cleanliness of railway premises. The inspections in June led to fines totaling Rs. 19,000 collected from 64 individuals found littering.

This comprehensive initiative was executed under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar and the leadership of Uchit Singhal. The intensive ticket checks aim not only to deter non-compliance but also to ensure comfortable and efficient service delivery to legitimate rail users.

Commending the efforts of the ticket checking staff, Singhal noted their role in boosting the division’s income and assured that the campaign would persist, targeting irregular travel, illegal vending, littering, and smoking.
