Srinagar, Sep 5 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister Sakina Itoo has criticized Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha's administration for failing to adjust the holiday for Eid-e-Milad-Un-Nabi, despite repeated appeals. Eid-e-Milad-Un-Nabi will be celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday in accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar. However, the official holiday is set for Friday, as per the administration's planned calendar. The minister accused the LG administration of disregarding public sentiment by not aligning the holiday with the actual date of celebration. "This is totally unjust," Itoo remarked, emphasizing that Eid-e-Milad, an occasion of profound significance for Muslims globally, should coincide with the lunar calendar. She inquired, "What does 'subject to the appearance of the moon' mean if the holiday doesn't reflect this?" She added that despite persistent requests from the elected government for the holiday's date to be adjusted, no action was taken. "Such decisions," Itoo argued, "should rest with the elected government, not with an administration disconnected from the people's sentiments." The L-G administration has previously resisted changing the date for Eid holidays as well.
