The International Society for Krishna Consciousness has banned their monk, Amogh Lila Das for making an 'inappropriate' and 'unacceptable' comment on Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramhans.

In one of his sermons, Amogh Lila Das questioned Swami Vivekananda for eating fish, stating that a virtuous man would never consume anything that harms an animal. He also made a jibe at Swami Vivekananda's guru, Ramakrishna Paramhans.

His comments sparked a controversy on social media, leading ISKCON to take action against him. The monk has been banned for a month.

In its statement issued on July 11, Iskcon said it was pained by Amogh Lila Das's 'inappropriate and unacceptable comments and his lack of understanding about the great teachings of these two personalities'

The statement further read that Amogh Lila Das had 'begged for forgiveness' and has taken a vow to atone for his remarks. He will live in the hills of Govardhan for a month and completely seclude himself from public life with immediate effect.
