Itanagar, Oct 22 (PTI) An underground member of ULFA (I) has been neutralized by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles during a coordinated operation in Arunachal Pradesh's Namsai district, according to a defence spokesperson on Thursday.
Encounters were made with terrorists in the MS-6 sector of Namsai district during the overnight operation from Wednesday into Thursday. At dawn, the forces discovered the body of the deceased insurgent, who has been identified as self-proclaimed 'Sergeant Major' Iwon Axom from the banned organization ULFA (I), stated Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, the Guwahati-based defence PRO, in a communiqué.
The subsequent search operation yielded a rifle, an RPG round, and three rucksacks, suggesting that the group may have been planning a significant operation or attack.
According to Lt Col Rawat, the operation is ongoing, with additional security force contingents, comprising police and CRPF units, being mobilized to enhance the search and eliminate any remaining threats in the region. This mission highlights the persistent efforts of security forces to uphold peace and security along the Assam–Arunachal boundary, where sporadic insurgent activities have recently been noted, he remarked.
