The Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, Nural Islam, on Monday, following a similar action taken against the Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Pranay Verma, on Sunday.

This move comes after the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry raised serious concerns regarding the recent activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Md Jashim Uddin, expressed the country's "deep concern" over the actions of India's Border Security Force (BSF).

These activities, including the alleged unauthorized attempt to construct barbed wire fencing, have led to tensions and disturbances in the region.

The Bangladesh Foreign Secretary also addressed the recent tragic incident involving the killing of a Bangladeshi citizen in Sunamganj by the BSF. He conveyed "deep concern and disappointment" over the incident.

In response, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma emphasized the importance of a cooperative approach between the two countries to address border security issues. He stated that India is committed to ensuring a crime-free border, focusing on tackling smuggling, criminal activities, and human trafficking.

Verma also highlighted the ongoing communication and cooperation between India's BSF and Bangladesh's Border Guard (BGB), aiming to enhance understanding and joint efforts to address border security challenges.

"We are committed to maintaining effective cooperation between our forces to combat crime and secure the border," Verma told reporters after his meeting with the Bangladesh Foreign Secretary.
