Lucknow, Aug 15 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday extended his greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day.

In a message on X, written in Hindi, Adityanath stated, "Heartiest congratulations to the people of the state on the 79th Independence Day! This sacred day is a hallowed symbol of the enduring spirit of Mother India and the steadfast faith of the immortal martyrs. We pay homage to those brave martyrs, whose sacrifices ensured India's independence and dignity."

He continued, "Today, our resolution is to build an India founded on justice, equality, self-reliance, and progress, as envisioned by our immortal martyrs. Let us unite with the ethos of 'Nation First' to realize the vision of 'Ek Bharat-Shresth Bharat' and 'Viksit Bharat-Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. Vande Mataram! Jai Hind!"

The Bahujan Samaj Party chief, Mayawati, in her statement issued on Friday, also extended wishes to the people on the occasion of Independence Day.

"In the interest of all sections of society lies the interest of the nation," Mayawati remarked.

She further commented, "To shield the country and its people from the economic strains caused by the arbitrary trade tariff policy enforced by (US President) Donald Trump under his ambition to make America great again, India too necessitates a robust self-reliance policy."

Mayawati emphasized that after the costly experience of relying heavily on America, it is prudent for India's trade and trust not to be anchored solely to any one nation.

The BSP chief further mentioned that comprehensive and inclusive development of the country is feasible only when India rids herself of all disorders, including communal, casteist, linguistic tensions, and violence, for which the governments hold significant responsibility.

She highlighted the necessity to halt conflicts between the Centre and the states.
