In an unusual case, siblings in Hyderabad argued over how their mother's last rites would be conducted as both followed different faiths and claimed rights over their mother's funeral as per their respective religions.

As per the Indian Express report, while the son is Hindu, the daughter converted to Islam 2 decades back and claimed that her mother too converted to Islam in January 2023.

The publication quoted the 92-year-old woman's daughter as saying, "My mother was living with me for the last 12 years, and I have been taking good care of her even though no one else cared for her. My mother said that no one would come asking for her after her death and that she be given final prayers and buried as per our tradition,” the woman said. After the crowding up of people from both communities on the streets over the death and last rites of the elderly woman, the police deployed forces there in the night.

However, after the police got involved in the matter, the siblings amicably sorted out. As per the police, the mortal remains of the mother were handed over to the son's family after the daughter and her family performed the last prayers as per their traditions, the report added.
