Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh), June 27 (PTI) — A tragic road accident occurred on the Delhi-Lucknow national highway as a speeding tanker ran over a group of individuals standing by the roadside, resulting in the death of three people and leaving four others with severe injuries, as reported by the police on Friday.

The unfortunate incident unfolded on Thursday night in the vicinity of Fiel Nagar village in Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. After the crash, the driver responsible for the accident fled the scene.

"A car had halted along the road, with its passengers engaged in conversation with some acquaintances on a motorcycle, when suddenly, a tanker originating from Shahjahanpur collided with the group," Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi informed PTI.

The collision had such a tremendous impact that a motorcycle parked near the group became lodged under the tanker and was dragged along for a considerable distance.

The individuals who tragically lost their lives in this mishap were identified as Yogesh Kumar Kuril (40), Vivek Mishra (43), and Mubashir Ali (38), all of whom were declared deceased upon arrival at the hospital.

The four individuals who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical care at the government medical college, stated Dwivedi.

The tanker involved in the incident has been seized, and active efforts are in progress to apprehend the fleeing driver.
