Three Arrested with Heroin Worth Rs 20 Lakh Near Arunachal-Assam Border

Itanagar, Jul 30 (PTI): In a coordinated operation, authorities apprehended three individuals found in possession of heroin valued at Rs 20 lakh near the border between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, as per police reports on Wednesday.

Armed with a tip-off, a joint task force comprising state police and CRPF officers halted a vehicle at the Banderdewa check gate. Upon inspection, 40 grams of heroin were found hidden in a green plastic bag beneath the car's bonnet, revealed Naharlagun's Superintendent of Police, Nyelam Nega.

The driver, Tania Tatar, a 30-year-old resident of Pachin Colony in Naharlagun, was immediately detained at the site, as stated by the SP.

During interrogation, Tatar divulged that the heroin supply originated from Jiten Biswas, an alleged drug trafficker based in Harmuti, Lakhimpur district, Assam. Subsequent actions took place on Tuesday, involving a raid at Biswas's residence in Parbotipur, Harmuti, conducted with support from the Assam Police.

During this operation, authorities seized 456.17 grams of heroin and 10 Nitrazepam tablets. Following these discoveries, Biswas, aged 35, along with his 34-year-old associate, Pushe Chetry, were taken into custody.

All three suspects have been charged under the NDPS Act, police officials noted.
