Ranchi, Aug 5 (PTI) — A day after the passing of veteran tribal leader Shibu Soren, affectionately called 'Dishom Guru,' Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his commitment to continuing his father's legacy, especially in the fight against injustice.
Chief Minister Soren remarked that he was navigating one of the most challenging periods of his life following the loss of his father. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) co-founder Shibu Soren passed away at 81, succumbing to illness in a hospital in Delhi.
"I am experiencing the most difficult phase of my life, with a cornerstone of Jharkhand's essence now gone," wrote the Jharkhand CM on X. "No book can truly encapsulate Baba's struggles, but I pledge to carry forward his fight against injustice."
Soren vowed to ensure that Jharkhand remains resilient and pledged his efforts towards realizing his father's vision, focusing on the upliftment of the oppressed and the poor. He committed to stepping into his father's shoes to wage a battle against injustice.
"My father's presence is no longer with us. He was my mentor, the foundation of my ideas. He inspired thousands, and even millions, of Jharkhandis, offering them protection like a forest shields from sunlight," Soren shared in an extensive post in Hindi.
The Chief Minister reminisced about his father's humble beginnings. Born in Nemra village, surrounded by poverty and hunger but rich in courage, Shibu Soren's journey began.
Hemant Soren recounted, "He lost his father at a young age, but the exploitation by landlords sparked a fire in him that made him a lifelong fighter."
"As a child, I would ask him: Baba, why do people call you Dishom Guru? He would smile and say: Because I understood their suffering and made it my own struggle," Soren reminisced.
The revered title was not documented in any book nor conferred by Parliament; it was a gift from the hearts of Jharkhand people. 'Dishom' signifies society, while 'Guru' represents the guide.
"To be truthful, Baba did not merely show us the path; he taught us how to tread upon it," Soren concluded.
