Ranchi, August 18 (PTI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow alert' for heavy rainfall in 11 districts of Jharkhand, beginning August 21. An official from the department shared this update on Monday. Light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue across most parts of the state until August 20. The districts expected to experience significant rainfall include Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dumka, Godda, Sahibganj, and Pakur according to the IMD's weather bulletin. The northeast and central regions of Jharkhand may experience intensified heavy rainfall starting August 21, with some areas continuing to receive rain until August 23. According to the bulletin, Jharkhand has recorded 29 percent more rainfall than the usual average between June 1 and August 17. The state has received 878.1 mm of rainfall compared to the normal average of 678.3 mm for this period. Among the districts, East Singhbhum recorded the highest surplus rainfall at 80 percent, followed by Saraikela-Kharswan with a 66 percent increase, and Ranchi with a 55 percent excess.
