Koraput, Odisha: Heavy rainfall induced by a low-pressure system has severely disrupted normal life in Odisha’s Koraput district as of Wednesday, according to officials.

Rail and Road Disruptions: Train services have been affected, with the East Coast Railway (ECoR) cancelling both the Jagdalpur–Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express and the Kirandul–Visakhapatnam Night Express. This follows landslides that blocked a section of the railway track between Koraput and Jeypore.

Landslides occurred between Malliguda and Jarati stations on the Koraput-Kirandul line in the Waltair Division due to continuous rains. Railway officials have been urgently dispatched to the affected site for damage assessment and restoration efforts.

Efforts Underway: "Heavy earth-moving machinery, manpower, and materials have been mobilised. Restoration work is being carried out on a war footing," stated a railway official.

Flooding Impact: The downpour has caused rivers and streams to swell rapidly, leading to submerged roads and disrupted traffic. A temporary bridge near Bangalaguda in Koraput block was submerged with about two feet of water passing over it.

Additionally, road connectivity between Koraput and Rayagada has been severed due to water overflow on portions of the highway.
