Panaji, Jul 8 (PTI): Goa has advanced to the malaria elimination phase, with the state's Health Minister, Vishwajit Rane, announcing an ambitious target to eradicate the disease completely by 2025-26. As part of the effort to eliminate vector-borne diseases (VBD), the Directorate of Health Services has mandated improvements in sanitation practices across different geographic areas, Rane shared in a post on X on Monday.
An initiative to implement compulsory malaria screening and health card issuance for all construction site workers is currently being rolled out under the Goa Public Health Act, he added. Reiterating Goa's objective, Rane stated, "Goa is in the Elimination Phase of Malaria, with a goal to achieve complete elimination by 2025–26."
The minister emphasized the pivotal role that citizens play in this initiative by urging them to eliminate mosquito breeding sites through better cleanliness practices. "We must collectively strive to ensure a VBD-free Goa. Public participation and inter-departmental coordination are crucial," Rane asserted.
In highlighting recent achievements, Rane revealed that a proposal has been submitted to nominate South Goa for the Sub-National Malaria Elimination Award for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, marking it as a substantial accomplishment in the state's ongoing public health undertakings.
