Latehar, Jharkhand: In a fortunate turn of events, around 25 girls narrowly escaped a fire that broke out in a hostel room at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Bariyatu, a residential school in Jharkhand's Latehar district. The incident was reported early Monday morning, according to police sources. Beds and study materials were destroyed as the blaze, detected at around 6 am, swept through the room used by the students, a senior police officer reported. A fire tender was dispatched promptly, and it took the fire brigade over an hour to extinguish the flames. “The collaboration between locals and students was crucial in aiding the fire brigade personnel in controlling the fire,” stated Ranjan Kumar Paswan, in-charge of Bariyatu police station. At the time of the breakout, all the 20-25 hostel room residents were fortuitously outside engaging in morning physical training. Initial investigations point towards a short circuit as the likely cause of the fire. The school authorities mentioned that the hostel accommodates 221 girls, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.
