Mumbai, Jun 30 (PTI) The Maharashtra government introduced a significant piece of legislation in the legislative assembly on Monday aimed at forming a consolidated body to hasten mining approvals and bolster the development of mineral-based industries in Gadchiroli district.
The proposed 16-member Gadchiroli District Mining Authority (GDMA) will feature several key members, including a minister each as nominated co-chairperson and deputy chairperson, together with ex-officio members. The Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, will serve as the chairperson.
The GDMA will also comprise secretaries from the departments of mining, industries, labour, energy, finance, environment, and revenue.
"This Authority will play a pivotal role in expediting the processes to activate mining leases. It aims to create job opportunities and enhance revenue, contributing to the comprehensive development of the Gadchiroli district," stated Mining Minister Shambhuraj Desai to the legislative assembly.
Gadchiroli is abundant in iron ore and holds significant potential to be developed as a center for mineral-based industries, particularly in steel," he added.
