A fresh flare-up was witnessed in the violence-hit Sandeshkhali region in West Bengal, as locals ransacked local TMC leader Ajit Maity’s house and assaulted him.
Maity is believed to be the close aide of absconding TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh, who is accused of land-grabbing and sexual harrasement.
Friday's incident took place in the afternoon in the Sandeshkhali 2 block area, around 15 kilomteres away from the centre of the main protests, Indian Express newspaper reported.
Police were later called in and pacified the protesters. It assured both sides that all the steps would be taken to address the situation.
