Itanagar, May 28 (PTI) – Arunachal Pradesh has identified its first Covid-19 cases in the latest wave, as reported by a senior health department official on Wednesday. State Surveillance Officer Lobsang Jampa disclosed that a mother and her daughter were confirmed positive for the virus via RT-PCR tests conducted on Tuesday.

A 34-year-old pregnant woman initially tested positive with a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Monday, following symptoms of fever and a mild cough. "The RT-PCR test conducted on Tuesday confirmed the infection," Jampa stated, noting the woman had returned to Itanagar from Bengaluru on May 13.

The woman's 53-year-old mother also tested positive for Covid-19 through the RT-PCR test, although she remains asymptomatic, according to the official.

The pregnant woman is currently receiving hospital treatment, whereas her mother has been placed in isolation. Jampa emphasized that there’s no need for panic, asserting that this new strain of the virus is not as severe as the previous variants.

"The health department is meticulously overseeing the situation, implementing all necessary precautions to thwart further spread of the virus," he assured.

Furthermore, he mentioned that a comprehensive public health advisory will be issued soon after discussions with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Delhi.
