Agartala, Aug 27 (PTI): Four pistols and seven magazines have been seized in West Tripura district, as police authorities revealed on Wednesday.

On receiving a tip-off, law enforcement officers carried out a raid at a residence in the Madhyapara area under the jurisdiction of Amtali police station on Tuesday night, leading to the confiscation, according to Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak.

The residence is owned by Dipankar Sen, a notorious offender with several charges filed against him, primarily under the Arms Act.

Sen, who has previously been arrested for arms-related offenses, is currently serving time in jail.

The confiscated firearms have been dispatched to the Forensic Science Laboratory for thorough examination.

Authorities noted that further investigations will be undertaken to determine if the seized weapons were intended for local criminal networks or were linked to a larger smuggling operation.

In recent years, security forces have increased operations to counter the smuggling of illegal firearms and other contraband goods through the India-Bangladesh border.
