After a Qatari court awarded a death sentence to eight Indians employed with a company in Qatar on 26th October 2023, the Indian embassy in Doha is reportedly reaching out to top legal experts in Qatar to appeal the sentence.

Here are the options India now has to challenge the order.

Indian govt can appeal in the higher court within the judicial system in Qatar.

Under a 2015 pact, Indian prisoners convicted in Qatar can be brought back home to serve the remaining part of their sentence.

If justice not delivered, India can appeal in the International Court of Justice.

The government can also use diplomatic pressure to prevent meeting out the death penalty.

The Qatari Emir pardons a number of prisoners every year based on appeals for clemency.
