Bengaluru, June 24 (PTI) — Former BJP MP Anant Kumar Hegde, along with his gunman, driver, and an unidentified individual, has been charged with assaulting and threatening a family after intercepting their vehicle on Monday evening, police reported on Tuesday.

The complaint, filed by Saif Khan of Halenahalli, Bengaluru, alleges that Hegde and the three others stopped his car near Suttariya College on the Tumakuru-Bengaluru National Highway and attacked him and his family. Khan claimed they were returning from a wedding in Tumakuru when their vehicle was blocked and forced to stop. The attackers allegedly identified themselves as officials, then assaulted Khan, his brother Salman Khan, mother Gulmeer Unnisa, and uncle Ilyas Khan.

The First Information Report states that the attackers hurled communal slurs, issued life threats, and brandished a firearm during the altercation. Salman Khan reportedly sustained broken teeth, while Ilyas Khan suffered other injuries. The police have not provided details regarding the motive behind the attack.

The Dobbespet Police have filed a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint lodged by Khan.
