New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) – Tragedy struck a household in the Begumpur area after a brother and sister died, and their elderly father was hospitalised in critical condition due to an electric shock, as reported by police on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Vivek (26), a welding worker, and his sister Anju (28), who was married only three months prior. Their father, Kalicharan (65), is currently receiving emergency treatment.

On Wednesday night at 10:56 pm, the Begumpur police station received a distressing PCR call. "Yahan light katwa do, theen aadmi chipke huye hain (Please disconnect the electricity, three people are being electrocuted)," pleaded Abhishek, a neighbor of the victims. A police team immediately reached the scene, where Abhishek informed them that the victims had already been moved to Aggarsain Hospital by locals.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajeev Ranjan stated that a crime team, along with officials from the North Delhi Power Limited, conducted an inspection of the site. Preliminary investigations unveiled that the house, constructed on a 50 square yard plot, featured hazardous open electrical wiring, with live wires wrapped around an iron grill situated on the staircase.

Around 10 pm, Vivek was making his way upstairs when he inadvertently touched the iron gate laced with live wiring, receiving a severe electric shock. Upon hearing his cries, father Kalicharan rushed to aid but fell victim to electrocution as well. Anju, witnessing the tragic incidence, endeavored to save her family but was electrocuted in the process. The local community promptly transported all three to the hospital, where on arrival, Vivek and Anju were declared dead, leaving Kalicharan in critical care.

The bodies of the deceased were eventually transferred to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for autopsy.
