Imphal, Jun 26 (PTI) BJP MLA K Ibomcha stated on Thursday that the central government is actively working to restore normalcy in the conflict-stricken region of Manipur, with the ultimate aim of establishing a popular government in the state.

He emphasized the importance of complete cooperation from all civil society organizations in Manipur, asserting that such cooperation is essential for creating a conducive atmosphere necessary for forming a popular government.

"Today, we had a meeting with our party's state president, A Sharda Devi, following her recent discussions with BJP president JP Nadda in Delhi," Ibomcha noted.

Ibomcha further stated that establishing a conducive atmosphere is a prerequisite for forming a popular government.

"The central government, alongside all stakeholders, is putting in considerable effort to create this conducive environment. We are currently witnessing dialogue between various groups and the Centre, which is part of this effort. We are at a critical juncture, and making the right decisions can lead to a resolution of the conflict," Ibomcha elaborated.

Since May 2023, ethnic violence between the Meiteis and the Kuki-Zo communities has resulted in over 260 casualties and left thousands homeless.

On February 13, the Centre imposed President’s rule in Manipur following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The state assembly, whose term extends until 2027, has been placed under suspended animation.
