Kolkata, Aug 13 (PTI) Condolences poured in as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her sorrow over the passing of Dr. Vece Paes on Thursday. She highlighted that his contributions to hockey and the field of sports medicine will be cherished and remembered. Paes, aged 80, was a pivotal member of the Indian men’s hockey team that clinched the bronze medal at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. He was also the father of tennis legend Leander Paes. He passed away in Kolkata due to age-related ailments. Mamata Banerjee posted on X, saying, "His dedication to hockey and sports medicine will forever be celebrated.
