Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, June 10 (PTI) - Tension erupted in Chakkodhar village following the vandalism of a statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, police reported on Tuesday. Additional Superintendent of Police, Om Prakash Singh, informed that the vandalism took place on Monday night in a local park, which also features statues of Gautam Buddha and the Ashoka Pillar.

“Unknown miscreants damaged the statue of Dr. Ambedkar on Monday night. News of the incident quickly spread, prompting locals to gather in protest at the park,” ASP Singh stated.

The police intervened to maintain law and order, assuring residents that a new statue would be erected within the next 24 hours.

Interestingly, this statue was originally unveiled by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, on November 24, 2024.

Efforts are currently underway to identify and capture those responsible for the act, according to police sources.
