Salem (Tamil Nadu), July 17 (PTI): A 77-year-old ENT specialist has been apprehended for allegedly defacing the statue of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi with black paint, officials stated on Thursday.
Police identified the septuagenarian by examining CCTV footage. The Hastampatti police launched an investigation and reported that the detainee runs an ENT nursing home in the vicinity.
Authorities alleged that the doctor applied the black paint to the 16-foot bronze tribute to the former DMK president, which is situated in front of Anna Park.
The incident occurred on July 15 and was reportedly driven by mental stress related to personal family issues.
