The Defence Ministry issued a clarification on August 22 after reports that India had conducted another surgical strike on Pakistan in the Jammu and Kashmir's Balakote sector.

The ministry said that India had not done a surgical strike but foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in the Balakote sector.

The statement said that on the morning of August 21, Indian troops detected two terrorists who were trying to cross the LoC from the Pakistani side.

The soldiers then laid out ambush sites for the terrorists and fired at them when they approached the spot. The defence ministry said that the terrorists managed to escape due to dense fog and thick foliage but not before being injured in the firing.

A search operation was launched in the afternoon after the visibility improved.

Indian Army recovered an AK 47 rifle with two magazines, 30 rounds, two grenades and Pakistani-origin medicines.
