As Delhi gears up for the Assembly elections on February 5, more than 570 cases of alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) have been registered so far, according to officials. These cases were recorded between January 7, when the MCC came into effect, and January 23.
In an intensified pre-poll crackdown, Delhi Police has been vigilant at border checkpoints and ramped up operations against illegal activities. The efforts have resulted in the arrest of 19,065 individuals under various legal provisions, including those under the Excise Act.
Significant seizures have been made during this period, reflecting the scale of illicit activities thwarted. Police confiscated 284 illegal firearms, 394 cartridges, and seized over 46,682 litres of liquor valued at more than ₹1.3 crore. Additionally, 119.51 kg of drugs worth over ₹20 crore and more than 1,200 banned injections were recovered.
Law-enforcement agencies also seized cash amounting to ₹5.29 crore and 37.39 kg of silver, according to an official statement.
The heightened vigilance comes as voting for all 70 Assembly seats in Delhi is set to take place on February 5, with results scheduled to be announced on February 8. Authorities continue to maintain strict surveillance to ensure a free and fair election.
With polling day fast approaching, the Delhi Police is leaving no stone unturned in cracking down on violations and illegal activities that could disrupt the election process.
