After the Nirbhaya case in 2012, Delhi was given the title of "rape capital,” and if you look at the data by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) of 2022, not much seems to have changed much, even after a over decade.
The grim figures point out that the national capital stood at the first spot among 19 metropolitan cities in rape cases. On an average, Delhi recorded three rape cases every day, making the total number of registered cases for sexual assault 1,212 in 2022.
Compared to the 2,076 registered cases of sexual assault in the year 2021, the figure is less.
As per the NCRB data, the total crime cases against women in 2022 witnessed a marginal decline in Delhi compared to the previous year. In 2022, the city recorded 14,247 cases of crimes against women, while 14,277 were registered in 2021.
The reports also revealed that 131 women were recorded as the victims of dowry deaths. The city also recorded five cases of acid attack and three failed acid-attack bids.
16 cases of murder over love affairs were also reported in Delhi, according to the NCRB report. The case of Shradha Walker was the most gruesome one on the list.
