New Delhi, Jul 2 (PTI): The Delhi Police has arrested a man for allegedly orchestrating a plot to kill his nephew by hiring a contract killer in the Paharganj area of central Delhi, an official reported on Wednesday.
Lal Kunal, aged 36, was captured in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He had been evading arrest for more than a month after allegedly planning to murder his nephew, Suraj, due to a family dispute, according to an officer.
Police reports indicate that on May 30, Kunal allegedly employed a man named Arun Kumar, 45, to assault Suraj. Following Kunal's orders, Kumar reportedly attacked Suraj with a knife, resulting in a severe cut to his neck.
Kunal managed to escape from the scene while Kumar was taken into custody. An FIR was filed on May 30, charging Kunal with attempted murder, and teams were formed to capture him.
"The team received a tip regarding Kunal’s location in Aligarh, where they set up a trap near a hospital and apprehended him on June 30," the officer added.
Kunal’s request for anticipatory bail was previously rejected by the court. He confessed to the crime, revealing he sought revenge against Suraj for a past assault case and had promised money to Kumar to execute the attack, the officer said. Further investigation is currently ongoing.
