Narmadapuram (MP), Aug 13 (PTI) - In a tragic find at the Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) in Madhya Pradesh's Narmadapuram district, authorities have discovered a deceased tiger, suspected to have perished due to a territorial clash. Tiger T-66, estimated to be between 11-12 years old, was found lifeless in the reserve's Lagda beat on Tuesday by a vigilant patrolling team, which quickly escalated the matter to senior officials. An official report on Wednesday highlighted that during a meticulous site inspection conducted by forest personnel and veterinarians, no signs of poaching were evident. The majestic big cat had all its body parts intact, as confirmed by STR Deputy Director Rishibha Singh Netam. The immediate assumption points to a territorial brawl with another tiger in the vicinity as the probable cause of death. The tiger's viscera have been sealed, adhering to protocols for forensic examination. An autopsy was performed in the presence of representatives from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), after which the carcass was disposed of following the established regulations, according to Deputy Director Netam. Madhya Pradesh boasts nine tiger reserves, prominently including Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Satpura, Pench, and Panna. As reported in the 'Status of Tigers: Co-predators & Prey in India-2022' report, released by the NTCA along with the Wildlife Institute of India, Madhya Pradesh leads the nation with its tiger population numbering 785, surpassing Karnataka's 563 and Uttarakhand's 560.
