Schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu's Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram have been ordered to stay closed in the wake of the destruction caused by Cyclone Michaung.

Several places in Chennai remained flooded following the heavy rainfall. Rescue teams have been deployed to evacuate affected residents.

Meanwhile, Defence minister Rajnath Singh will visit Tamil Nadu today to conduct an aerial survey of the affected regions.

He will also meet Chief Minister MK Stalin, who has sought an interim flood relief of ₹5,060 crore from the central government to address the situation.

The chief minister on Wednesday visited affected areas, distributed relief materials, and inspected drainage efforts.
