Cyclone Michaung: schools, colleges, banks to remain closed in 4 Tamil Nadu districts

As the Cyclone Michong inches closer and amid heavy rains, Tamil Nadu government has ordered that all public institutions will remain closed on December 5. 

The government advisory stated, 'due to the Cyclonic storm 'Michaung', all schools, colleges, educational institutions, government offices including the Offices of Public Undertakings/ Corporations, Boards, Banks, and Financial Institutions in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu Districts will be closed on 05.12.2023'

The Meteorological department has also issued red alert in north-coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. The area is likely to experience isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy falls, the dept said. 

Thirty-three flights from Chennai have also been diverted to Kempegowda International Airport on Monday, as heavy rains continued to pound Tamil Nadu capital and nearby districts of the neighbouring state under the impact of a cyclonic storm.
