Thiruvananthapuram, May 30 (PTI) The CPI(M) has announced M Swaraj as the candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Nilambur Assembly segment in Malappuram district. The announcement was made by the CPI(M) state secretary during a press conference, following a meeting of the party's state secretariat. Swaraj, who previously represented the Thrippunithura Assembly seat in Ernakulam district from 2016 to 2021, is a native of Nilambur in Malappuram district. In the 2021 elections, he was defeated by Congress candidate K Babu. Swaraj currently serves as a member of the CPI(M) state secretariat. Meanwhile, the Congress has put forward Aryadan Shoukath, son of the late Congress veteran and former Kerala minister Aryadan Mohammed, as their candidate for the seat.
