Mumbai, Apr 4 (PTI): A Mumbai court issued a show-cause notice to the city police on Friday for failing to submit an inquiry report in a defamation and stalking complaint lodged by Yasmeen Wankhede, sister of former NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede, against NCP leader Nawab Malik.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Bandra), Ashish Awari, had, since January, ordered an inquiry under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

This section allows the magistrate to postpone issuing a process against the accused, permitting either a personal inquiry or directing an investigation.

The court tasked the police with delivering a report after conducting the inquiry, but the authorities have yet to comply.

Consequently, the show-cause notice has been directed to the Amboli police station located in Jogeshwari.

Yasmeen Wankhede, represented by advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, alleged in her complaint that Malik had made numerous false, defamatory claims about her through tweets and TV interviews, alongside accusations of stalking her on social media platforms.

The complaint, initially filed in 2021 at an Andheri court, was eventually transferred to the MP/MLA court in Bandra.

Yasmeen underscored her brother Sameer Wankhede's pivotal role as the then-Mumbai Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in dismantling drug syndicates and managing several high-profile drug-related cases.

One significant case involved Malik's late son-in-law, Sameer Khan.

The submission suggests Malik harbored personal animosity and retaliatory motives against her brother for his legal actions against Malik's son-in-law and began disseminating baseless allegations as a countermeasure.

This was allegedly performed with "malafide intention" to put pressure on the complainant’s family.
