New Delhi, Aug 24 (PTI) - In a concerning incident in Connaught Place, New Delhi, a group of bouncers and staff members from a bar allegedly assaulted three friends, including two advocates, following a dispute, the police reported on Wednesday. The altercation took place around 1:15 am on Sunday outside an N Block bar as Dharmendra Kumar (36), Naveen Kumar (31), and Naveen Shaukin (28) were departing for home post a party, a senior police official disclosed.
According to police sources, the complainant, Dharmendra Kumar, recounted that he and his two friends had been at the bar for dinner and drinks. After settling their bill online around 1 am, they exited the establishment to have a smoke and were enjoying a dhol performance by a street musician outside the bar.
The situation escalated when a bouncer from the bar reportedly used abusive language and attempted to forcibly remove the dhol player. When the group objected to the bouncer's conduct, a verbal confrontation ensued. The bouncer allegedly summoned 8-10 additional bouncers and staff members from the bar, the police official remarked.
The group reportedly attacked the three men, employing punches, kicks, and a hard object, resulting in injuries. Furthermore, the assailants allegedly threatened the group with gun violence if they failed to vacate the area, the official added.
During the scuffle, Dharmendra's gold chain was reportedly lost. After notifying the police, the victims received medical attention at Lady Hardinge Hospital.
A case has been filed under pertinent sections at the Connaught Place police station. The police are examining CCTV footage from the bar and its vicinity to identify the alleged attackers. Additionally, the involvement of the bar's staff and management is being scrutinized, the official reported.
