Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has filed a defamation suit against Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, claiming damages to the tune of Rs 10 crore.
This comes after Gogoi had alleged that a company run by her received a subsidy grant of Rs 10 crore from the Central government for an agro processing cluster project.
The case was filed in a Guwahati court on 22 September as per media reports.
The chief minister's wife is the chairperson and managing director of the company, which is one of the largest media companies in the Northeast, owning two news channels, a newspaper, a digital news portal and multiple entertainment channels.
