New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) – As the vice-presidential election approaches, the Congress has criticized YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy for backing NDA candidate C P Radhakrishnan, accusing him of betraying democratic principles.

Congress representative Manickam Tagore expressed his views on platform X, suggesting that the people of Andhra Pradesh will remember Reddy's "betrayal" for supporting an RSS-backed nominee allegedly due to "fear" of CBI investigations, rather than prioritizing the state's interests.

“History won’t forgive Mr. @ysjagan’s betrayal,” Tagore commented. “By aligning with an RSS-sponsored candidate for Vice President, he has chosen fear of CBI cases over Andhra Pradesh's well-being.”

Tagore elaborated, “This isn't about tactical moves. It’s surrender—yielding to pressure from Modi-Babu, instead of siding with democratic forces.” He further criticized Jagan's "compromise" as a choice that showcased prioritizing personal survival over respecting the people's mandate. “Andhra required valor. He opted for cowardice.”

“Leaders who bow before Delhi out of fear betray the people’s trust. Jagan will not be remembered as a warrior but as one who sold his integrity to avoid CBI scrutiny,” Tagore added.

Additionally, in another statement, Tagore urged all MPs to vote for a candidate who supports constitutional values instead of an RSS-backed nominee. “Colleagues, a critical decision lies ahead. Let’s unite with courage and allegiance to our principles. Today’s choice impacts tomorrow. RSS candidate vs. Constitutional candidate,” he remarked.

The scene is set for a showdown between ruling NDA candidate Radhakrishnan and the joint opposition's B Sudershan Reddy in Tuesday’s vice-presidential election. The BJP-led coalition is likely to have an advantage following Jagdeep Dhankhar's unexpected resignation.

Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad stated, “This election pits those who protect the Constitution against those threatening it. One side respects Baba Saheb Ambedkar, while the other does not. The contest will be intriguing.”

Conversely, BJP MP Anurag Thakur contended that Radhakrishnan is a formidable candidate destined to secure a significant victory. “We are committed to ensuring his success. Opposition members supporting him recognize his representation of national interests,” Thakur asserted.
