On the first day of the new year, Oil Market Companies (OMCs) increased the price of 19kg commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders across the country, news agency ANI reported.
The 19kg commercial cylinder will now be sold at Rs 1,768 in Delhi, Rs 1,721 in Mumbai increasing to Rs 1,871 in Kolkata and Rs 1,917 in Chennai.
The price of domestic LPG cylinders remained unchanged. The hike is expected to increase the cost of dining out at food outlets and restaurants.
OMCs usually revise prices of LPGs on the first of every month. This time it was done on the first day of the new year.
Taking a swipe at the Centre, Congress reacted to the price hike saying, 'The first gift of the new year...Commercial gas cylinder has become costlier by Rs 25. This is just the beginning. Happy New Year.'
