Thiruvananthapuram: Tension gripped Nedumangad in Thiruvananthapuram as violence erupted following a suspected clash between the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)). This skirmish led to the burning of an ambulance and damage to another vehicle, police reported on Monday.

The conflict reportedly began when SDPI activists allegedly assaulted a local leader of the CPI(M) on Sunday evening, as per information from the Nedumangad police.

Subsequently, there were reports of unidentified individuals targeting the residences of SDPI workers.

According to police, masked attackers damaged an ambulance and a car belonging to an SDPI member on Sunday night.

In a potential act of retaliation, an ambulance operated by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth division of the CPI(M), was set ablaze in the vicinity of a government hospital early Monday morning.

The police have initiated an investigation to determine whether these attacks were indeed retaliatory acts stemming from the initial clash and to identify the perpetrators.

In response to the unrest, authorities have increased patrolling efforts to prevent further violence in the affected area.
