Bengaluru, Jul 16 (PTI) — BJP MLA and former Minister Byrathi Basavaraj has been implicated in a case related to the murder of a realtor, an incident that occurred in the presence of the realtor’s mother, police revealed on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Shivaprakash alias Biklu Shivu—a known rowdy sheeter—was attacked and killed on Tuesday night in Bharathi Nagar, Bengaluru, by assailants who arrived in a car. A complaint lodged by the deceased's mother led to Basavaraj and several others being booked, police said.
The victim's mother, Vijayalakshmi, recounted in her complaint that she witnessed a group of eight to nine individuals assaulting her son with iron rods and machetes. When Shivaprakash's friend attempted to intervene, he was also attacked with an iron rod. "As I screamed, people from the area gathered. These unknown assailants killed my son and fled the scene in a white Scorpio vehicle and a two-wheeler. I can identify them if I see them," she stated.
Senior police officials, including DCP D Devaraj and Joint Commissioner Ramesh Banoth, visited the scene and confirmed that Shivakumar had a lengthy criminal history, with 11 cases against him and a rowdy sheet opened in 2006.
The police have filed a case listing Basavaraj along with Jagadeesh, Kiran, Vimal, and Anil as the accused, identifying the former minister as accused number 5 in the FIR.
According to Vijayalakshmi, on February 11, Jagadeesh and Kiran encroached on Shivaprakash's property in Kitaknoor, forcefully removing two female security guards from the premises. She alleged that the accused had been issuing threatening phone calls to her son.
