Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, Jul 2 (PTI) – In a heated altercation, former Congress MLA Bamber Thakur confronted a senior police officer in Himachal's Bilaspur district on Wednesday. The dispute arose when Thakur accused the police of attempting to obstruct his visit to the deputy commissioner.

Police sources explained that Thakur was asked to use an alternative route due to the scheduled passage of the convoy of Union Minister and BJP national president J P Nadda.

A video of the incident that surfaced online depicts Thakur confidently asserting his knowledge of the route to the DC office, insisting on his right to proceed.

When a police officer requested Thakur and his supporters to clear the way, the ex-MLA responded firmly, "Don't argue. I know my way." Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shiv Kumar then stepped in, but Thakur continued forward.

"Don't push me... don't abuse," the ASP is heard saying in the clip.

In response, Thakur staged a sit-in protest on the road.

The former MLA explained that his visit to the deputy commissioner was intended to submit a memorandum. His son, Ishan Thakur, later claimed on social media that "goons from Punjab" had attempted to assault his father the previous day.

Earlier this year during Holi, Thakur was shot at his Bilaspur residence. He alleged another attack was planned in Jabli by distracting his personal security officer (PSO).

Thakur recounted that while the attackers lay in wait, his PSO remained vigilant. He claimed that despite sending a message to the SP around 5 pm on the same day, police action was lacking.
