Ballia (UP), June 27 (PTI): Tragedy struck in Ballia district late Thursday night when a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed, and two of his friends suffered injuries in a brutal assault. Residents reacted by blocking the national highway for over an hour on Friday morning, authorities reported.
Golu Yadav, a resident of Tola Shivan Rai village, was targeted after attending a post-funeral ceremony in Fakarurai Tola village along with three friends. As the teenagers made their way back home around 1 am on Friday, they were ambushed near the Kali Sthan area, according to police sources.
The assailants, armed with knives, axes, and sticks, launched a vicious attack on the group. Golu succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while his friends Gahan and Chandan sustained injuries.
The incident provoked outrage among villagers, leading them to obstruct the national highway on Friday morning. The protest continued for approximately 90 minutes until Bairia Circle Officer (CO) Mohammad Faheem Qureshi intervened, promising the crowd stringent action against the perpetrators.
Ballia Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh, along with other senior police and administrative officials, promptly arrived to manage the volatile situation.
Following a complaint registered by Golu's brother, Dilip Yadav, an FIR has been filed against seven individuals: Devendra Singh, Pawan Singh, Aman Singh, and Sonu Shah of Tola Shivan Rai village, and Prakash Singh, Vikas Singh, and Dipanshu Paswan of Fakarurai Tola village. The FIR also names five unidentified persons, a police official disclosed.
The case has been booked under the appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with efforts underway to apprehend the suspects. Some suspects have already been detained for interrogation, the officer added.
