Thane, Jun 24 (PTI) – The Konkan Marathi Sahitya Parishad has voiced its dissent against the Maharashtra government's proposed three-language formula, labeling it as "unfair and inappropriate." This decision, issued in an amended order last week, would require Hindi to be generally taught as the third language in Marathi and English medium schools from Classes 1 to 5.
The state government clarified that Hindi would not be compulsory; however, it requires that at least 20 students per grade in a school express interest in studying any Indian language other than Hindi for it to be offered.
The Konkan Marathi Sahitya Parishad stated that the policy overlooks the cognitive, emotional, and linguistic capacities of young children. "From our perspective, considering the mental, physical, and intellectual capabilities of students from Class 1 to 4, it seems unfair to insist on Hindi as a third language from Class 1," the group asserted in a statement.
