A fresh air scare incident took place on 3 February as an Air India Express plane suffered a fire in one of its engines. The plane abandoned its journey to Kozhikode and returned to Abu Dhabi after engine failure during take-off.

There were 184 passengers onboard the Boeing 737-800 plane, and all were safe, airline officials were quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.

VT-AYC operating flight IX 348 from Abu Dhabi to Calicut was involved in air turnback due to the No.1 engine flameout at 1,000 feet during the climb, according to the DGCA official. The spokesperson said the plane had a technical snag in one of the engines while taking off.

More details are awaited.
