Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on May 24, 2023, made a major announcement regarding the country's diplomatic presence in India.

Albanese said that a new Australian Consulate-General would be established in the Indian city of Bengaluru.

He said that this would help connect Australian businesses with India's booming digital and innovation ecosystem.

A day earlier, PM Narendra Modi had said that the Indian government would open a new consulate in Brisbane.
