The flood situation in Assam improved on Thursday, although four more people lost their lives taking the death toll to 11 so far across the state, according to an official bulletin. Almost 38,000 people were still affected by the flood in four districts of Barpeta, Kamrup, Lakhimpur and Sonitpur. According to officials, currently no river is flowing above the danger mark.
253 villages remain submerged in floodwaters and 1,526.08 hectares of crop area has been damaged across the state, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said.
Massive erosions have been reported from Nalbari, Sonitpur and Tinsukia, it added.
Several places in Kamrup have reported incidents of landslides due to heavy rainfall.
Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by floodwaters in Jorhat, Barpeta, Kamrup, Goalpara, Kokrajhar and Udalguri.
No river is flowing above the danger mark in the state, officials said.
On account of widespread flooding, more than 32,000 domestic animals have also been affected across the state.
