Itanagar, July 2 (PTI) A case of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been confirmed in Luaksim village located in Arunachal Pradesh's Longding district.
Officials reported that the infection was identified when a blood sample tested at the National Research Centre on Pig in Rani, Assam, returned positive, as stated by Dr. Ganno Tayeng, a veterinary officer from the Kanubari Mobile Veterinary Unit.
The Longding veterinary department has issued a public advisory to manage and prevent the ASF outbreak.
Following standard operating procedures, Longding’s district veterinary officer, Dr. Ojuli Moyong, has designated a 1 km radius around Luaksim village as an infected zone.
Additionally, an area spanning 10 km beyond the infected zone has been marked for surveillance.
The department has imposed restrictions on the movement of pigs and piglets in and out of the infected and surveillance zones.
The sale and slaughter of pigs is also prohibited within these areas until further notice.
All local pig markets, including temporary and weekly markets within the designated areas, have been ordered to close.
