Chikkaballapura, Karnataka, July 30 (PTI): The Chikkaballapura Town Police have successfully detained three women implicated in stealing gold ornaments from passengers at bus stands while pretending to be fellow travelers, as per official reports.
The arrests were made following a complaint filed by Rihana Khanam, a resident of Chikkaballapura Town.
In her complaint dated May 27, Khanam reported that her gold bangles were stolen from her bag around 2 PM as she was boarding a bus bound for Gudibande at the bustling KSRTC bus stand.
Upon receiving the complaint, authorities registered a case at the Chikkaballapura Town Police Station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), leading to the launch of an investigation.
On July 25, the police apprehended the three suspects from Kalaburagi. The accused, identified as Tulasi (22), Prema (21), and Sonia Baba Sheikh (25), were reportedly working as ragpickers. The trio admitted to the theft and also confessed to their involvement in a previous case (Crime No. 35/2024 under Section 379 IPC) recorded at the same police station, police officials stated.
The police recovered approximately 70 grams of gold jewellery estimated to be worth Rs seven lakh from the accused.
